The Mendo Human Race is all about the experience. The experience of fundraising together as a community to support our non-profits. The experience of walking or running the course with 600 plus local people. The experience of hearing music pulsating from DJ Ryan at the Alex Thomas Plaza Center. The experience of eating locally produced food together. The experience of celebrating the 10th (!) Anniversary event and walking away with t-shirts that we all wear with pride.
We just received our 50th team sign up form which is the most we’ve ever had! May 2nd promises to be a special experience.
The timeline for the day has been finalized. You’ll note that there are some special treats in store. The goal is to extend the morning beyond simply taking part in the walk/run. Upon returning from the course there will be several activities for you and your family to take part in.
First things first, Bank Night is Monday, April 27th from 3 – 6 pm at NCO which is located at 413 N. State Street in Ukiah. This is the primary day to turn in your donations, pick up your team’s t-shirts, and meal wristbands. The fundraising contest runs through May 1 but we ask that you turn in everything you have on April 27th and then bring in your last week’s collections by Friday, May 1st.
For the day of the event, registration starts at 8 am at the Plaza. DJ Ryan of Tah Dah Productions will be spinning music to get everyone pumped for the day. We’ll also be providing fruit to give you some fuel. There will be locally grown oranges and strawberries along with bananas. We will also be serving granola bars from Ukiah’s own Pamela’s Products.
At 9 am the event will begin with the runners starting first. If you’ll be running please make your way to the ahead of the pack near the starting line. We expect to have more runners than ever this year so getting there early will speed things along. All walkers will follow the runners onto the 5k course.
Naturally, the runners will return to the Plaza before the walkers. We expect the final walkers to return to the plaza by approximately 10:30. Upon your return to the plaza you can peruse the Ukiah Farmers Market which will be in full swing. You can take in more music from DJ Ryan, take the kids to the jumpy house, we will also have a vibrant marketplace which includes informational booths around many key community programs, and in general you can enjoy what we expect to be a glorious early spring day.
We’ll also have lunch for you. We’ll be serving John Ford Ranch hot dogs with The Alley Grill buns which are freshly baked every morning. There will also be a vegetarian option available as well. Lunch will be prepared by the Active 20-30 Club of Ukiah.
At approximately 10:30 we will host our first ever “Kids Race” this event is for children 9 and under. We have outlined a “track” which is a semi-circle right at the heart of the Plaza. This will be quick and fun. At the end of the race, all the kids will receive their very own Mendo Human Race 10th Anniversary sunglasses.
Right after the kids race we will host our awards ceremony. There are several categories of prizes. We will have ribbons for our top runners and we’ll also have prizes for the most creative team costume, best decorated t-shirts, longest centipede, and most spirited centipede. In addition, we have some special awards to give out to honor those people that have made the 10th Anniversary Event possible.
As the awards ceremony wraps up there will be a soccer demonstration from the good folks of the Mendocino Soccer Academy.
The experience promises to be special. Thank you for making it possible.
In the meantime, the best thing you can do is to continue to raise money for your non-profit. (Contest details HERE) The dollars you raise go directly toward supporting these programs which allows them to maximize their level of service to our community members.
See you at bank night and then on May 2nd!
